Photograph: Robert Schneider, M.D.Professor Robert H. Schneider, M.D., is a physician, scientist, educator, and internationally renowned leader in the field of natural medicine. He completed his fellowship in hypertension at the University of Michigan Medical School, did his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center, and received his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey Medical School.

He is Dean of the College of Maharishi Consciousness Based Health Care at Maharishi University of Management [new browser window]and Director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention [new browser window] , one of eleven research centers funded by the U.S National Institutes of Health - National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Over the past 18 years, Dr. Schneider has been the Principal Investigator of grants from the National Institutes of Health and private foundations totaling $20 million to conduct research and demonstration projects on the Maharishi Transcendental Meditation program and Maharishi Consciousness Based Health Care for the treatment and prevention of hypertension, cardiovascular disease and aging. This includes the most recent award of $8 million by the NIH-National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to establish the first research center specializing in natural preventive medicine for minorities in the U.S. The medical research program he directs has been called the largest systematic evaluation of prevention-oriented, natural medicine supported by the U.S. federal government.

Dr. Schneider is board-certified in public health and general preventive medicine and is a specialist in clinical hypertension. He has authored or co-authored over 100 scientific papers on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases, which have been published in cardiovascular and behavioral medicine textbooks and other leading medical journals such as the American Journal of Cardiology, Stroke, Hypertension, Journal of Managed Care, Journal of Psychosomatic Research Psychoneuroendocrinology, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Journal of the National Medical Association, and International Journal of Neuroscience. In addition, he has been invited to lecture on disease prevention and health promotion at medical conferences and specialty societies throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States.

Dr. Schneider and colleagues' research has been featured in over 1, 000 magazine and newspaper articles including New Scientist, American Health, Self, Let's Live, Insight, Health, Longevity, American Medical News, Medical Tribune, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Des Moines Register, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, London Daily Telegraph, Paris Match, Jerusalem Post, Indian Express, Associated Press, Reuters, and French News Agency. His work has also been featured on numerous television and radio news broadcasts, including ABC's 20/20, ABC's Dateline, CNN Headline News, CNN Health Special, ABC National Radio Network, UPI National Radio Voice of America, and Health Watch (for all English-speaking nations).

Dr. Schneider has served as a consultant for the U.S. Congress Prevention Coalition and for members of the British Parliament - House of Lords.
